I went to Antone's last Friday to see the Sea Change Records showcase with Johnny Goudie & The Little Champions and Alpha Rev, whose performances were really strong as usual, but ended up being pleasantly surprised by the openers, The Soldier Thread, also on the Sea Change label.
They're an Austin-based quintet with Patricia Lynn on viola and vocals - her voice is ethereal and amazing and the harmonies were awesome. The band is rounded out with Todd Abels (guitar, vox), Chance Gilmore (bass), Justin McHugh (rhodes, guitars, vox), and Drew Van Diver (drums).
Their next show is at Antone's on New Year's Eve opening for Bob Schneider with The Black & White Years. What an incredible lineup! Then, they're at Stubb's on January 9th with Homer Hiccolm & The Rocketboys.
